Valentines with Meljen at Card Making Mama's

Hi from a coldishy, wet and slightly miserable Sydney.  What a change from the delightful scenes at Whistler Canada where we were lucky enough to have over 1metre of fresh snow over the two weeks we were there... how spoiled were we!  Just two days of what I would call... testing!  One was -27d but -40 with wind chill and the other was about three days prior to us leaving, where it rained everywhere but high levels.. where it was foggy and windy... blah!

My first creation on my return home was such fun to make!  I had read the brand new issue of Designed To Colour and was quite taken with the idea of monochromatic colouring, I attempted it with this project but ended up adding too much colour, so my original idea changed to a somewhat distressed card... taking my right back to my original style of cardmaking.  This card is very me, from the colour choices, and the distressed look.  I even coloured the lace using spritzers, and the colour match was a complete mistake.  I was aiming for a brown tea dyed look, but I found that I didnt have any suitable brown inks to use for spritzing... after a few combinations using brick and marmalade vivid reinkers I ended up with a near perfect match apricot/orange lace...  something that may be impossible to recreate!

Our theme this week at Card Makin Mama's is Valentines.   Now considering that my dear husband doesnt get into the idea of Valentines, I felt it was best to make a card for a friend instead of the love of my life.   The image is perfect, its called Cubbin Around and its from one of my favourite designers Meljen.

I used 7 Gypsies paper, Kaiser lace, and Kraft Cardstock for the base, coloured with copics and then went a little silly with Distress Inks (after watching the Tim Holtz Distress Markers video)
The shape of the image and mount and the hearts were cut on the Blackcat Cougar.
I am not sure why I loved making this so much, but it really was nice to sit down and just relax with papercraft... now I have to go and clean up that craft room and try and find some form of organisation in it!  Wish me luck.
